BORDENTOWN >> The Bordentown High football team sure turned on the style for its first victory.

Seth Asare ran for 173 yards and a pair of scores and the Scotties got in the win column with a 38-16 triumph over Robbinsville on Friday night.

Asare, a 5-11, 165-pound senior, carried the ball 13 times, scoring on runs of 27 and 55 yards. His 55-yard burst in the fourth quarter sealed the win for Bordentown (1-2).

The Scotties set the tone early, driving 99 yards on 14 plays for the game’s first score.

They converted a pair of key fourth downs on the drive that ate up most of the first quarter clock, eventually getting in the end zone when Asare scampered in from 27 yards away.

Bordentown didn’t need nearly as much time to go up 14-0 early in the second quarter after Xander Sommers returned a punt 60 yards, which led to quarterback Dominik DaBronzo’s three-yard touchdown run.

DaBronzo also completed 5 of 8 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown, but his biggest throw was his first one when he connected with Sommers for a 33-yard gain on the Scotties’ first play from scrimmage. The play moved them off the one-yard line and set in motion the 99-yard scoring march.

Kadir Akkaya booted a 35-yard field goal before Robbinsville (1-2) finally got on the board.

The Ravens, whose first two games were decided by a combined three points, got a reprieve when a roughing the passer penalty nullified a half-ending interception and on the next play Taylor Twamley hooked up with brother Jared for a 36yard score.

Taylor completed 7 of 15 throws for 133 yards and a touchdown with five of those completions going to Jared for 121 yards.

Robbinsville didn’t get any closer since DaBronzo hit Amari Morris-Morales on the opening drive of the third quarter for a 31-yard TD on a third-and-16 play, putting the Scotties ahead 24-7.

Dylan Scholl connected on a 33-yard field goal with three minutes left in the third, cutting the deficit to 24-10, but Bordentown scored with 10:18 left in the fourth on Keion Jackson’s three-yard plunge. Asare 27 run (Akkaya kick)
