Hopewell Twp.

DWI: On Sept. 6, at 2a.m. Officer Vincent Amabile stopped the driver of a 2016 Ford for speeding on Route 29near Route 546. Police said that while Officer Amiable was speaking with the driver who was identified as John P. Mongillo of Cherry Hill, Amabile smelled the odor of alcohol on Mongillo’s breath and person. Following roadside sobriety testing he was placed under arrest for DWI. He was transporte­d to police headquarte­rs where he was processed and released to a family member after being cited for DWI, speeding, and reckless driving. His case will be heard in municipal court, police said.

Theft: On Sept. 8, at 12:30 p.m., Officer William Gaskill was dispatched to Freedman Jewelers on report of a theft. When Gaskill arrived he was informed that two unknown black males in their 40s and an unknown black female in her 30s had entered the store and distracted employees by asking several questions to employees at the same time. The trio left the store without purchasing anything. Police said that the employees then noticed that five pieces of jewelry were missing. The value of the items was $10,089.

Burglary: On Sept. 11 at 6:15p.m. Officer John Ferner and backup units were detailed to a reported burglary in progress on River Drive. According to police, 911 calls reported that two males had entered a residence that was unoccupied and were removing items. Officers Ferner and Mandy Grey arrived on scene and located Rex Destiny Roskos, 23, of Trevose Pa., and Anton Nikiforov, 23, of Langhorne Pa., alongside the residence. Following an investigat­ion Officer Ferner arrested both males for burglary and theft. Police said that a painting that had been stolen from the residence was recovered. They were placed under arrest and transporte­d to police headquarte­rs where they were processed and released after posting bail. Their cases will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor­s Office, police said.

Burglary: On Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. a victim reported that sometime overnight someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole approximat­ely $2800.00 dollars’ worth of tools and electronic­s on Washington Avenue in Titusville.

Newtown Twp., Pa.

Scam: A resident came to police headquarte­rs shortly before 3 p.m. on Sept. 13 to report that he had received a phone call from a person who was crying and identified himself as the resident’s grandson. Another person then took the phone telling the resident that his grandson had been arrested and that the resident needed to purchase $3,000 worth of iTunes gift cards and then to return a call to provide the caller with the card numbers. The resident followed the directions and was then told to repeat the process for an additional $6,000. When the victim went to the bank to withdraw the funds, he told bank personnel the situation and they told him he was the victim of a scam.

Shooting: Police arrested a 22-year-old Edgewater Park man after they were sent to the first block of Hancock Lane for a report of subjects shooting on Sept. 21, at 4:13 p.m. Police said that upon arrival they learned that a 25-year-old Hancock Lane resident had been struck once in the arm by gunfire and was transporte­d to Lourdes Hospital in Willingbor­o with non-life threatenin­g injuries. Officers then located a vehicle which had been involved in the shooting abandoned on Hancock Lane after it had apparently struck a parked vehicle. Officers located several shell casings were located on the ground near the vehicle. During the course of their investigat­ion detectives developed informatio­n that the driver of the abandoned vehicle had fled the scene on foot after striking the parked vehicle and firing a gun towards a residence on Hancock Lane. A search of the vehicle detectives turned up large capacity magazine loaded with hollow point bullets along with quantities of suspected marijuana and cocaine. Detectives, through their investigat­ion, developed informatio­n which led to the arrest of Ronny Paden Jr. He was lodged in the Burlington County Jail in default of $250,000.00 bail, police said.
