Politics in Hamilton

-

I am one of the Democrats that signed a letter to Hamilton Township Council members asking for Public information sessions to explain and help alleviate any concerns the public may have regarding the proposed electric energy savings program.

I was pleased to read in the September 23rd edition of your newspaper that Mayor Kelly Yeade, now agrees with the Democrats that a meeting is necessary “so our residents can fully understand how this program works.”

My question is, where has she been for the past two months? As you mentioned in the article it was Janna Sheiman, chairman of the Hamilton Democratic Club Action Committee that asked for public sessions when this proposal was originally brought before Council In July.

Your recent news story made it appear that having public sessions was Mayor Yeade’s idea. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Mayor expressed no concern about informing residents about this program until a few days ago when she somehow got her hands on a letter to Council written and signed by members of the Hamilton Democratic Clubs Action Committee.

She was not even concerned enough about the publics understanding of this programs to attend the July 19th Council Meeting and explain it to the Council members. Instead at the last minute she snuck it on the agenda with no explanation and apparently expected Council to rubberstamp it.

Your readers should also know that if the Hamilton Democrats did not recently shine a light on this proposal , the scheduled Sept. 29th public session to be held 6:30 at the Library would not be taking place. This is an important program that if implemented

could result in lower energy bills for Hamilton residents. As a member of the committee I encourage as many people as possible to attend the meeting so they can be better informed before they are automatically enrolled.
