Wilson ‘Woody’ Francis of Bordentown

Wilson “Woody” Francis, 81, went home to be with the Lord on December 28, 2016. He was born Wilson Borsy Francis on December 21, 1935, at McKinley Hospital in Trenton, NJ, to Clarence Francis, Sr. and Irine Francis who resided at 60 West St., Bordentown. Educated in the Bordentown Public School System, he graduated from McFarland High School in 1954, where he was a good athlete who participat­ed in basketball, football and track. He also received an Associate’s Degree from Mercer County Community College and honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1959 after two years of service. Woody married Patricia Chapman in 1962 and Shirley Casley in 1996. A founding member of the Fieldsboro-Bordentown Social Athletic Club (F-BOSAC), he served in various positions, including president and treasurer. He coached the basketball CYO league team and travelling softball team. He worked for the State of New Jersey for 23 years and retired in 1997 as the Assistant Supervisin­g Medical Security Officer. Predecease­d by his sisters, Arlean and Florence; brothers, Charles, Clarence, Jr. and Ronald “Fuzzy” and daughter-inlaw, Sharon. Woody is survived by: three sisters, Blanche, Glaydell and Esther; three sons, Tony (Cynthia), William and stepson, Ernest; two daughters, Shiernell and Kim; eight grandchild­ren; three great-grandchild­ren; two step-grandchild­ren; five adopted grandchild­ren; two adopted great-grandchild­ren and a host of family and friends nationwide. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Mt. Zion AME Church, 36 E. Burlington Street, Bordentown. The viewing begins at 8 a.m., followed by the funeral at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Bordentown Cemetery. Arrangemen­ts are by Anderson Funeral Service.
