Dawkins a Hall of Fame finalist

Former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins is one productive round of voting from a berth in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Dawkins, who coaches Eagles players and evaluates talent, is among 15 modernera finalists on the ballot at Super Bowl LI.

Up to eight finalists will be enshrined in Canton, Ohio.

“Brian Dawkins is a true Eagle,” team executive Howie Roseman said Wednesday. “For him to be one of the 15 finalists for the Hall of Fame is a testament to what kind of player and person he is. We couldn’t be more excited. We were all celebratin­g last night when we heard the news and we’re really excited to see what happens in Houston. He is truly a member of this team on and off the field.”

Dawkins played for the Eagles for 13 seasons ending in 2008. He then played three seasons for the Denver Broncos.

“It’s a blessing to be mentioned among the names of so many other guys who have made it this far, let alone to be hopefully in the Hall of Fame someday,” Dawkins said in a statement.

Dawkins intercepte­d 37 passes, recovered 19 fumbles, forced 36 fumbles and produced 26 sacks in 224 career games.

Dawkins appeared in the playoffs eight times with the Eagles. He registered five tackles in the Eagles’ 24-21 loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX.
