Ruth Melvina Creager Burchell, 96, of Manahawkin, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford Twp., NJ.

Ruth was born in Hamilton Township, NJ to the late Orville H. Creager and Melvina Knowles Creager. She was a direct descendent of American Revolution­ary War patriots. Ruth was raised in Trenton and graduated from Trenton High. She retired from NJ Bell Telephone Company and Mercer County Community College. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Telephone Company Pioneers. A woman of many interests, she was a talented seamstress, artist and crafter. She was an avid reader, loved crosswords puzzles, watching the Phillies and was a NASCAR fan.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Steward C. Burchell; brother, Wade E. Creager and sister-in-law, Frances Creager. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Bonnie) Drew of Manahawkin, NJ and Judith B. Hayes (Ashley) of Eastanolle­e, GA; five grandchild­ren, Cameron Drew (Kristine), Mark Drew (Jaime), David Drew (Susanne), Johanna Poff (Michael) and Sally Hayes; six great-grandchild­ren, Dillon Drew, Marissa Drew, Elicia Drew, Donovan Drew, Ava Poff and Evan Poff; one step greatgrand­child, Christian Coleman; nephew, Gerald Creager (Linda), nieces, Carol Vonesh (Jack) and Cynthia Horsley (Paul); several great-nieces and nephews, cousins, special friends and neighbors.

Memorial services will begin on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at noon at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.

Interment will follow at Colonial Memorial Park in Hamilton, NJ.

A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, from 10 a.m. until noon, at the Saul Colonial Home.
