Obscene graffiti put on pothole for attention

- By Trentonian Staff

HAMILTON >> It appears local residents are fed up with the number of potholes in the capital city region.

Someone recently drew a picture of male genitalia in the eastbound lane of Sloan Avenue in Hamilton to bring attention to a pothole.

It’s unclear when the picture first appeared in the roadway, but motorists notified The Trentonian about the drawing Monday afternoon.

Creating additional questions about the incident, the picture appears to be drawn using two different colors, which makes one wonder how dangerous it must have been for someone to draw the image in the middle of a street.

The township’s Department of Public Works said Sloan Avenue is a county road under the jurisdiction of the Mercer County DepartmentOfTransportation.

A representative with the county DOT said Sloan Avenue is actually state property because of the nearby overpass and ramps. However, county officials notified the state regarding the pothole and the vulgar drawing.

About an hour and a half after The Trentonian posted the story online, a motorist emailed a photo that appears to show crews fixing the pothole. The state DOT later confirmed the pothole was patched.

Officials plan to remove the vulgar graffiti Wednesday when it is not raining.
