TRENTON >> The front glass door of the deli was obliterated, and at least 19 crime evidence cones littered the street outside the business.

A man was shot Wednesday afternoon outside a local deli, but his injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Officials say a gunman started firing at the victim outside a deli in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday. The victim ran into the deli with the gunman still firing, resulting in the shattered glass door.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks. He was gone by the time police arrived at the crime scene, but later walked into a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The suspect ran before police arrived on scene as well.

A woman who has lived on that block all of her life expressed sadness in the amount of violence that plagues the capital city.

“It’s sad because most of these people don’t even live around here,” the woman said. “They come here, park their cars and they hang out.”

Sources say the man who was shot in the buttocks is 30-year-old Leroy Tutt, who was recently released from prison.

Public records show Tutt was arrested in 2013 for aggravated assault and weapons offenses. He was paroled in October 2015 and released from custody in June of last year.

Police do not have a suspect description at this time. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 609989-4155.
