Chapman to pitch tonight in rehab appearance
Ever wonder what an Aroldis Chapman fastball looks like in person?
If Thunder fans want to see the Yankees closer in person, best get to Friday night’s game against Erie at Arm & Hammer Park early.
Chapman is scheduled to start the game and pitch just the first inning as he makes a rehab appearance on his way back to the Bronx.
Chapman was placed on the disabled list on May 14 with left rotator cuff inflammation. He was 7-for-8 in save chances prior to his injury.
A four-time National League All-Star, the 29-yearold was originally acquired from Cincinnati in a trade that sent four former Thunder players — Tony Renda, Eric Jagielo, Rookie Davis and Caleb Cotham — to the Reds on Dec. 28, 2015. The Yankees traded Chapman to the Chicago Cubs on July 25, 2016 in return for Gleyber Torres, Rashad Crawford, Billy McKinney and Adam Warren.
The Yankees signed Chapman, a free agent, after helping the Cubs win the World Series, to a five-year contract extending through the 2021 season with a player opt-out after the 2019 season.
