Fifth member of Trenton heroin dealing crew pleads guilty
TRENTON » A fifth person pleaded guilty in federal court Monday for his role in a drug trafficking organization that allegedly distributed hundreds of grams of heroin in the capital city and surrounding areas.
Christopher Proctor, 22, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess and distribute 100 grams or more of heroin and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Proctor and nine other members of a Passaic Street drug dealing crew were charged late last year.
According to documents in this case, Proctor participated in a drug trafficking organization that operated in the area of Spring and Passaic Streets for at least a year.
Ishmael Abdullah was identified as the leader of the crew by law enforcement officials who say the group maintained joint access to multiple firearms, spoke in code and used temporary prepaid phones, stash houses and cars to avoid detection by police.
Through intercepted phone calls and text messages, controlled purchases of heroin, confidential sources, and other investigative means, police learned that Abdullah secured significant quantities of heroin from multiple suppliers, and then distributed the product to other conspirators who stored the drugs and sold them to various other distributors, subdealers and users in Trenton and surrounding areas.
In addition to his role in the conspiracy, Proctor — a previously convicted felon — was arrested on Aug. 23 last year by Trenton cops who found him in possession of a loaded Glock 27 semi-automatic handgun and multiple rounds of ammunition.
The conspiracy charge carries a mandatory minimum term of five years in prison, a maximum potential penalty of 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine. The firearms possession charge carries a maximum potential sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 26, 2017.
