West End hoping to create buzz in the city
The West End Little League All-Stars have shown improvement over recent years, and with another talented group of players, manager Ron Davis has high expectations for this group.
Davis has been the president of West End Little League for well over 20 years, but this is first stab at managing.
“Baseball is 80 percent mental, and 20 percent physical effort,” Davis said. “I expect these young men to leave it all on the field.”
West End begins its quest for District 12 championship on Friday night against Sunnybrae with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at West Windsor Little League. The winner faces either Robbinsville, Cranbury-Plainsboro or West Windsor.
Davis, along with assistants Al Laramore and Dale Moore, bring a wealth of experience to the dugout. Once again look for West End to try and get runners on base and then get them moving for the big bats in the middle of the lineup.
If the pitching can keep opponents off the board, West End might have a chance to go deeper than it did last summer when it won a pair of games.
“Pitching is always pivotal in this tournament, and our kids are ready, and up for the challenge,” Davis said. “Our goal is to advance deep into the tournament bracket.”
They also know a few wins will generate buzz around the city.
“The whole city of Trenton will be riding with us,” Davis said.
