Senior standouts contest Sunshine Classic tonight

The top senior football players from the area get one last chance to put on the pads when the 21st annual Sunshine Football Classic is contested Thursday night at The College of New Jersey with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.

The game features players from Mercer, Hunterdon and Burlington counties and benefits the Sunshine Foundation, a non-profit organizati­on whose mission is to grant wishes to seriously ill, physically challenged or abused children.

The East roster features players from Hamilton, Robbinsvil­le, Florence, New Egypt, Allentown, Hightstown, West Windsor South, Nottingham, Steinert, Bordentown and Northern Burlington.

The West roster includes players from Princeton, Lawrence, Ewing, West Windsor North, Trenton, Notre Dame, Hopewell Valley, Pennington and North Hunterdon.

Quarterbac­king the East team are Robbinsvil­le’s Taylor Twamley and Borden- town’s Dominic Dabronzo. On the West side, Ewing’s Edamiyon Doggett and Trenton’s Herbert Edwards will be under center.

The East leads the all-time series 6-5 since the game shifted form a Mercer-Skylands set up to East-West in 2005.

The West team has won three of the last four games and is coming off a 31-point outburst, the highest scoring total in the event’s 20-year history.
