‘MONSTER’ ARRESTED
Trenton woman charged with attempted murder, victim on life-support
TRENTON » A woman who was arrested at the train station Sunday while allegedly trying to flee the city is charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that left a man in grave condition Friday night.
Shante Fields, a 24-yearold city resident, is accused of ambushing a 29-year-old man in the rear of the first block of Sanhican Drive — which is Edgewood Avenue — around 8:50 p.m. last Friday. Officials say she shot the man nearly seven times, including once in the head and neck.
The victim remains hospitalized in extremely critical condition, and sources say he’s on life support systems.
“She ambushed that man,” a source said. “She got him when he wasn’t looking.”
Sources say the shooting was captured by video surveillance, which shows the victim “running for his life.” Sources say the video shows the victim being shot numerous times in the torso before falling onto the ground. He then tries to crawl away and the suspect shoots him in the head.
“It was an execution,” a source said. “She turned into a monster.”
Sources familiar with Fields say she’s normally “quiet” and “polite.” One person described her as a “smoker not known for violence,” who’s “not very talkative.”
Sources say Fields regularly frequents a bodega in the first block of Sanhican Drive, and that she continued to visit the store over the weekend following the shooting.
Fields eventually tried to flee the city Sunday and was apprehended at the train station by members of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the U.S Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Officials say members of Trenton police were vital to the investigation as well, including Patrol Detective Sgt. Anthony Manzo, who identified Fields as the shooter after investigators viewed video footage of the incident.
Fields is charged with attempted murder and related weapons offenses. She is being held at the Mercer County Correction Center.
