TRENTON
Drug Dealer Sentenced:
Keith “Meech” Hunter, 24, of Trenton, was sentenced Friday to 72 months in federal prison — six years of hard time — for his role in a drug trafficking organization that allegedly distributed hundreds of grams of heroin in Trenton and the surrounding areas. In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Freda L. Wolfson also sentenced Hunter to four years of supervised release. Hunter previously pleaded guilty in Trenton federal court to a count charging him with conspiracy to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin. Hunter possessed and sold large quantities of heroin as a member of a drug trafficking organization known as the “Abdullah DTO,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey. The organization was named after its alleged ring leader Ishmael Abdullah, who was arrested last December along with several other co-defendants on federal drug charges. Hunter was a major player in the organization, using his street hustling savvy to distribute heroin on the streets of Trenton in the areas of Spring and Passaic streets between June 2015 and December 2016. Law-enforcement authorities intercepted electronic communications, set up controlled drug buys and used confidential sources to gain enough information to take down the criminal organization. Hunter’s prison sentence of six years is nowhere near the maximum punishment he could have received. He could have been hit with up to 40 years in federal prison.
BURLINGTON CITY
16 Arrested During Safe Streets Operation: A multi-agency patrol operation netted 16 arrests in Burlington City’s New Yorkshire neighborhood during the evening of June 30. Four of the arrests were for warrants issued by the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department for alleged failure to pay child support, including: Jarvis Cephas, 34, of Burlington City; Darnell Hawkins, 43, of Burlington City; Marcus Hubbard, 44, of Edgewater Park; and Isreal Molina, 37, of Burlington City. In addition to officers from the Burlington City Police Department, the operation involved law enforcement personnel from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, the Evesham Township Police Department and the Westampton Township Police Department. The operation was conducted as part of the “Enough is Enough Safe Streets Initiative” and concentrated on apprehending individuals with outstanding arrest warrants in addition to strict enforcement of city ordinances and motor vehicle laws in an effort to deter violent crime in the area, a neighborhood known for shootings and occasional homicides.
