Bordentown’s rally comes up short

- Staff Report

NEW MILFORD » The Bordentown Post 26 baseball team went into the seventh inning trailing by six runs, only to get five back and load the bases before the Ridgewood Rebels escaped with a 1211 win in the New Jersey American Legion District 2 championship game Tuesday night.

Cody Schroeder and Paul Woodley each had a triple, two runs scored, three hits and three runs batted in to give Post 26 a shot at the automatic berth into next week’s Legion State Final 8 at Ewing’s Fred Walters Field at Frank Moody Park.

Kyle Forcini went 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs for Bordentown, which will now await the winner between defending state champion Flemington Post 159 and the Passaic Indians.

After those teams play at 4 p.m. Wednesday in New Milford, Post 26 (18-7) will play the winner (at approximately 6:30 p.m.) for a shot at becoming one of the final five teams to qualify for the state tournament. LATE MONDAY HOPEWELL 9, HIGHTSTOWN 1
