Ex-con gets re-arrested on attempted murder charges

TRENTON » A city man who recently served 10 years in state prison for resisting arrest and robbing a Trenton deli at gunpoint has been re-arrested on allegation­s he attempted to murder someone on Brunswick Avenue.

Victor Baylor, 33, was released from state custody on June 18 and weeks later shot a 44-year-old man in the abdomen, police said.

The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Baylor about 6 p.m. Thursday on the 200 block of South Broad Street in connection with the July 22 shooting. He was charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and certain persons not to have weapons.

The victim of the shooting walked into Capital Health Regional Medical Center during the early morning hours suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim told police he was shot in the area of Dee Dee’s Lounge on the 500 block of Brunswick Avenue. He underwent emergency surgery last Saturday and survived the shooting.

Criminal history

Baylor in 2005 armed himself with a handgun and robbed a Trenton deli on Brunswick Avenue with co-defendant Kawan Bolt. A jury eventually convicted both defendants on all charges.

Baylor served time in state custody from March 2, 2007, till his release on June 18, according to records compiled by the New Jersey Department of Correction­s. He was sentenced to four years of incarcerat­ion for resisting arrest in 2004 and sentenced to 14 years for robbing the Brunswick Avenue deli in 2005.

Before being discharged from state custody, Baylor was assigned to the Kintock Bridgeton South Work Release program in Cumberland County. Kintock is a halfway house for inmates transition­ing to be released back into the community.
