Lorine D. Jones, of Ewing, NJ
Lorine D. Jones,
82, passed away peacefully on July
25, 2017 in Ewing,
New Jersey. Affectionately known as “Ma-Ma”, she was surrounded by loving family.
Lorine was born on September 1, 1934, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., to Henry and Carrie Davis. She attended the local schools and enjoyed spending time with her siblings. Lorine married Charles Jones on August 25, 1952. The couple then relocated to Trenton, NJ in 1956 and raised three children: Travis, Tracey, and Tyrus. The Jones family expanded with the addition of daughters Kathy Hill, Denise Felton, and Janie Jones, along with sons Michael, Anthony, and Yuri Jones, who will all miss her immensely.
Many other families came to know and love Mrs. Jones through her housework in Princeton, NJ. When she wasn’t there, she could be found at “The Deli,” selling penny candy to the locals. The whole neighborhood knew Mrs. Jones. After a day’s work at the store, she’d return home and spend time with family, usually watching the news or “Family Feud.” Her home was the center of entertainment, usually used for hosting parties and family gatherings, full of southern-style cooking. Everyone knew about “Ma-Ma’s” house on the corner. “Lo” loved her siblings, and always made sure her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were provided for. She was a true matriarch and the core of her family. She will truly be missed.
Predeceased by her parents, sisters Louise Boone and Dorothy Young, brother Lewis Davis, daughter Tracey Barnes (Jimmy), granddaughter Tiara Bolden (Shawn), and grandson Tariq Harris, she is survived by her husband, children, brother Raymond (Trenton, NJ), and sisters Pattie Irene aka “Jane” (Walter) (Trenton, NJ), and Willie Mae (Roanoke Rapids, NC), 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, inlaws, nieces, nephews, and special family-friend Louise Gregory.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 9-11am at Friendship Baptist Church, 111 Perry Street, Trenton, NJ. Funeral services will follow at 11am. Pastor John R. Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home. The family would also like to thank Holy Redeemer HomeCare. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
