Man armed with a knife arrested for obstructing Trenton shooting investigation
TRENTON » A man accused of being “highly intoxicated” was arrested Sunday night after he tried to enter a crime scene armed with a knife.
Kyle Stephen, 51, was charged with weapons offenses and inciting a riot after he tried to force his way through a crime scene on Stuyvesant Avenue.
Prior to Stephen’s arrest, two males — ages 17 and 24 — were shot during a drive-by shooting. The victims told police they were outside in the 800 block of Stuyvesant Avenue around 5 p.m. when someone fired gunshots from a dark-colored vehicle that drove through the area.
Both victims were shot in the torso and remain hospitalized in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
While cops were investigating the shooting, officials say, Stephen approached on foot and tried to walk through an area that was blocked with crime scene tape.
“That was a wrong move,” Lt. David Cruz said. “He was acting in a tumultuous manner attempting to incite a riot. He was highly intoxicated.”
Officials say Stephen was also armed with a knife, so police forced him onto the ground and arrested him.
Adding insult to the situation, Stephen allegedly spat on cops during his arrest.
In addition to the weapons and riot offenses, Stephen is charged with improper behavior, obstructing the administration of law and throwing bodily fluid on law enforcement.
