Night of violence leaves one man shot, another stabbed

TRENTON » A man was stabbed and robbed inside his South Ward residence Wednesday evening, and another man was shot inside his West Ward apartment several hours later during a night of violence.

Police responded to the 800 block of Centre Street about 8:25 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a robbery in progress and located a 35-year-old male victim suffering from a stab wound to his abdomen. The victim told police that an unknown black male approximat­ely 40 years old and 6-foot-1- had knocked on his front door. The victim opened the door and immediatel­y came under attack, police said Thursday.

The suspect produced a large knife after forcing his way inside through the door and stabbed the victim in the gut, police said. The suspect took the victim’s wallet and fled from the scene. Medics transporte­d the victim to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon, police said.

About three hours after the stabbing, a 52-year-old man was shot in the neck inside his own apartment on the 400 block of Hoffman Avenue, police said.

The shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and officers quickly arrived on scene to find the victim suffering from the gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to the trauma center, where he was listed in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon, police said.

Trenton Police Detective Brian Jones is investigat­ing the stabbing incident, while the Mercer County Shooting Response Team is investigat­ing the shooting.
