TRENTON » The 24-year-old Hamilton woman who was brutally beaten in Trenton earlier this month is a mother of two and the daughter of Gov. Chris Christie’s former drug czar.

Hamilton resident John Hulick, one-time executive director of the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA), and his wife MaryAnn are praying for their daughter’s recovery while urging the public to come forward with any information that could help police solve the heinous crime.

“MaryAnn and I wanted to address our daughter, Paige’s, savage assault which occurred during a robbery last week. Paige experienced a traumatic brain injury and underwent six hours of brain surgery as a result of the attack,” the parents said Friday in a statement to The Trentonian. “We are holding Paige up to God and trusting her to His care as well as a great team of trauma professionals. We’d especially like to thank them and the first responders for the incredible care they have provided Paige since the attack.”

The attack occurred on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 2, on the 900 block of South Broad Street in Trenton. A man approached the victim about 7 a.m., unleashed a savage assault and fled the area after robbing the victim of her cellphone, police said. The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

John and MaryAnn Hulick in their statement said they “greatly appreciate hearing from those with heartfelt concern and ask for your continued prayers for Paige, her two sons and our family.”

“At our weakest and most vulnerable moment, we are reminded that much good exists in the world,” the parents added. “We’ve also been reminded that at these moments dark and evil forces also remain at play. We choose, however, to stay focused on Paige, her health, wellbeing and God’s grace.”

John Hulick served as an elected Hamilton school board member from April 2008 till he resigned in March 2010 to work in Christie’s administration as a human services policy advisor and then as executive director of the GCADA.

Anyone with information about the brutal robbery is urged to call police at (609) 989-4155. Tipsters may also contact the Trenton Police Department’s Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
