Edelstein thinks the Patriots will take the title this year

- Jeff Edelstein Jeff Edelstein is a columnist for The Trentonian.

I’m going on vacation next week so who knows when L.A. and I would be able to get to this so we’re doing it today and it’s the Patriots, duh.

The New England Patriots are going to do it this year. They will go undefeated and win the Super Bowl. The 1972 Dolphins will have company at the top of the heap.

Two reasons why: One, they are, on paper, the strongest Bill Belichick/Tom Brady team ever, and that’s saying something. Plus, you have to figure Brady, who is 40 years old, can’t possibly have too much left in the tank. How much longer can he go? It feels like they’re really going for it this year. Anything short of an undefeated season will be a letdown.

When it comes to who they will whup in the Super Bowl, I’ve got a hunch it’s going to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jameis Winston put up two solid seasons and is ready to make the third-year leap. Mike Evans is going to have a monster year. (He’s my #1 WR in Fantasy; book it). Adding DeSean Jackson is going to make defenses pay attention.

Assuming the three of them stay healthy, the Bucs are going to score a lot of points. They also have a fantastic young tight end in Cameron Brate and I expect Doug Martin (once he comes back) and Jacquizz Rodgers to be a true 1-2 combo.

Honestly, I see the Bucs as this year’s Falcons on offense.

Defense is another story. Middling at best. But it might not matter

So here’s the official Super Bowl prediction: Patriots 42, Bucs 35. A back-andforth shootout.
