A downtown city park offers positive experiences about Trenton life with separate but successful events on Thursday afternoon and evening.

Mill Hill Park gives accentuation to Cole Porter’s “Night and Day” as visitors show up for the Levitt AMP Trenton Music Series by night and the Capital City Farmers Market for lunch patrons.

The Trenton Downtown Association identified the Capital City Farmers Market as a venue for “Jersey Fresh farm produce and regional producers, artisanal food, specialty produce, baked goods, handmade crafts, jewelry, all natural body and face care products, and much more.”

Capital City Farmers Market is held every Thursday in May through October from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Mill Hill Park located at 165 E. Front Street, Trenton, NJ. Each week the market draws around 2,000 visitors — workers from the surrounding state/government offices and private businesses, as well as residents and tourists.

“We’re a close and growing community. Our longterm vendors have a dedicated base of loyal fans, and several have gone on to open brick and mortar stores after growing with us. Our goal for 2017 is to continue to grow the CCFM. In an effort to do this, we are looking to add vendors and sponsors. We are interested in adding additional farmers, local hand-made goods, prepared foods, beverages, florists, and nurseries as well as organic produce,” TDA announced.

The Levitt AMP Music Series offers ten free concerts through August as a variety of music genres take the stage in Mill Hill Park from 5-8 p.m.

This week’s (August 17) act includes Big Mean Sound Machine ,plus, Chalk and the Beige Americans.

A TDA description identified Big Mean Sound Machine as a group formed in 2009 in Ithaca, New York with one goal:

“To create music that stimulates both Body AND Mind. Today, BMSM’s collective of over 15 analog artists spread out over the East Coast United States bring together musical languages of West Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and North America to create a lush bed of rhythm and harmony that embraces even the most hardcore fans of both Traditional Funk and Avant-Garde Jazz – and everyone in between!”

Chalk and the Beige Americans produce a soulhop sound created by a foursome based out of Fishtown, Philadelphia.

“Part memorable hooks, part improvised sax and wordplay, every Chalk & TBA show is as familiar as is it new. They try to live up to their old school hip hop Boom Bap influences like A Tribe Called Quest and G-Love, and lament how bad they fail at genre hopping as well as bands like Cake. They aspire to be raw, abstract, catchy, genuine, & your new buddies,” TDA introduced.

TDA invites guests to bring a blanket, beach chair and to enjoy local fare offered by 1911 Smokehouse Barbecue and Jammin’ Crepes.
