TRENTON » A city man wellknown to police was arrested Wednesday night after he fled a traffic stop armed with a gun, leaving his two young sons in the car.

Harry Harrington, 48, later spit in an officer’s face, according to police who say he also threatened to retrieve a second weapon.

“He said he was going to get his other gun,” Lt. Rolando Ramos said.

Officials say Harrington, who is well-known to police, committed a traffic violation near the intersection of East State Street and South Walter Avenue around 9:35 p.m. Detectives then initiated a motor vehicle stop, according to officials who say Harrington pulled to the side of the road, jumped out of the vehicle and ran.

Cops quickly caught Harrington, officials say, but a struggle ensued after his apprehension. During the struggle, Harrington allegedly dropped a handgun onto the ground.

After cops handcuffed Harrington, they returned to his car where they found two boys, ages 6 and 7, sitting in the vehicle. Police say the boys are Harrington’s sons.

Harrington was then taken to the hospital to treat injuries sustained in the struggle with police, and that’s where he allegedly spit in a cop’s face and threatened to retrieve another gun. Harrington is charged with aggravated assault, several weapons offenses, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest and other offenses.

His sons were placed in the custody of their mother and the Division of Child Protection and Permanency is investigating the matter.
