Area schools have improved teams

Six schools from the Burlington County League and South Hunterdon of the Skylands Conference make up our Suburban previews.

Rancocas Valley seems ready to make another strong run with Bordentown, Florence, New Egypt, Northern Burlington and Pemberton vastly improved.

South Hunterdon will be young and might suffer some early growing pains, but they are a team that is ready for the challenge. Bordentown Coach: Julie Reisig (18th, 9th at Bordentown, 174-146-11 overall) Assistant Coaches: Amy Fisicaro, Ericca Cermak, Lauren Hunter, Kelly Schlupp. Last Year: 4-13-1 Roster: Emily Albrecht (Sr., A/M), Georgia DeMas (Sr., M/D), Noelle Gramlich (Sr., D), Abby Gunther (Sr., A), Shannon Hansell (Sr., M/A), Jenna Lucas (Sr., M/A), Ciara Santiago (Sr., M), Genesis Walker (Sr., D), Sydney Wieczkowsk­i (Sr., A/M), Sophie Carr-Olschewski (Jr., D/M), Makenza Goleniecki (Jr., D), Maggie Hetman (Jr., M), Jenna Ryan (Jr., G), Allie Chellis (So., A), Cali McCormick (So., D), Julia Peterson (So., D), Alexis Pulsinelli (So., A/M), Kylie Sutton (So., M), Morgan Kato (Fr., M/A), Katie Reichert (Fr., M), Savannah Poole (So., G). Outlook: The Scotties expect to have the growing pains from last year turn to them inflicting some pain this season. Now, an experience­d group they are ready to take the next step and become another competitiv­e Bordentown team. They should be much improved and a team that is going to make some noise. Florence Coach: Carey Kessler (5th season, 33-32-1) Assistant Coaches: Nicole Kilian Last Year: 8-9 Roster: Alyssa Nutter (Sr.), Elizabeth Cross (Jr), Macenzie Hines (Jr), Isabella Hollendone­r (Jr.), Natalie Parker (Jr.) Jelissa Reyes (Jr.), Daisha Gardner (Jr.),Isabella Dunphy (So.), Reagan Glassmire (So.), Michel Green (So.), Elle Jimenez (So.), Jenna Korinko (So.), Olivia Loftin (So.), Hailey McEleven (Fr.), Sedona Scully (Fr.). Outlook: The Flashes are a young group with just one senior and it might take some time for them to jell as a team. But, it’s a hard-working group that will be a better team by the end of the season. New Egypt Coach: Lisa Malloy (2nd season, 5-12) Assistant Coaches: Robynn Frank, Peyton Black, Lindsay Rajeski, Margaret Buchanan Last Year: 5-12 Roster: Chloe Lewis (Sr., G), Emily DeAnni (Sr., B), Katie Poch (Sr., M), Hannah Stryker (Sr., B), Payton Magnotta (Sr., M), Lauren Carlucci (Jr., F), Madison Mahaffey (Jr., B), Jess Shoblock (Jr., F), Stephanie Liatance (Jr., F), Iryna Vanderbeek (Jr., M), Hannah Lombardo (So., F), Sarah Weber (So., F), Gabrielle Biesiada (Jr., F), Ellie Alves (So., F), Kristen Koch (So., B), Madison Silvaszi (So., B), Ashlynn Bock (So., F), Abbigail Kuncken (So., F), Samantha Edinger (Fr., G). Outlook: Things are looking up in New Egypt as the growing pains from ’16 have given way to a determined bunch of Warriors ready to make their presence felt. The senior class is ready to lead this balanced group to a run at a division crown and they are looking to make a mark in the states, too. Northern Burlington Coach: Katie Kalinowski (6th season, 43-58) Assistant Coaches: Val Budd, Kelle Rhodes Last Year: 8-12 Roster: Brianna Ingling (Sr.), Aida Ingram (Jr.), Paige LeBlanc (Sr.), Jackie Serrano (Sr.), Jamie Specca (Sr.), Natalie Teszla (Sr.), Julia Veneziale (Sr.), Julia Woodworth (Jr.), Hannah Burke (Sr.), Maria Spano (Sr.), Katie McHugh (Jr.), Haylei Archer (So.), Megan Berg (So.), Haley Hentnik (So.), Madison Sisz (So.). Outlook: The Greyhounds return several player and will be an improved team in 2017. They have a solid corps of veterans that will lead the way. The expectatio­ns are high and it should be a team that just gets better throughout the season. Pemberton Coach: Kathy Larkin (25 years) Assistant Coaches: Kirsten Smith Last year: 8-8 Roster: Maya Barnes (Sr.), Trinity Beachem (Sr.), Kayla Buckelew (Jr.), Jordan Bush (Jr.), Alexxis Carter (Sr.), Daniela Cruz (Sr.), Deja Harper (Jr.), Jillian King (Jr.), Michelle Marinnie (Sr.), Deanna Mora (Fr.), Alexis Mosher (Jr.), Kyara Newton (Jr.), Elizabeth Poinsett (Jr.), Kayla Ratti (So.), Marissa Rosario (Jr.), Kameelah Williams (Jr.). Outlook: There are a lot of new faces for the Hornets, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be a down season. This is a team that is immensely improved from last year and will be contending all season. Rancocas Valley Coach: Diana Cermatori (1st season) Last Year: 12-9-1 Roster: Kristen Adams (Sr., G), Kristen McCloskey (Sr., M), Bridget McElroy (Sr., M), Victoria Myers (Sr., D), Kristen Brown (Sr., D), Nicole Scacco (Sr., F), Melanie Schaffer (Sr., F), Alyssa Maggs (Jr., F), Brielle Oden (Jr., M), Erin Jamison (Jr., D), Olivia McElroy (Jr., D), Caroline Beairsto (So., D), Carly Fordham (So., M), Kaitlyn Bowker (Fr., F). Outlook: Seven starters were lost to graduation last June and now the Red Devils will be in a slight rebuilding situation, but with the rich tradition at RV the process will not take long. Solid senior leadership will help bring the younger players along. South Hunterdon Coach: Stephanie Davis (4th season, 29-26-2) Assistant Coach: Krista Regan Last Year: 9-7-2 Roster: Claire Greenwood (St., B), Julia Kreider (Sr., F), Brooke Tumer (Sr., M), Kerry Coleman (Jr., G), Nicole Constantin­i (Jr., B), Jenna Godown (Jr., B), Jada Kauth (Jr., F), Brenna McCloughan (Jr., G), Sophia Petrucci (Jr., M), Alana Catanzaret­i (So., M), Tia Fleming (So, M/F), Ashley Lucarini So, B/M), Casey Tettemer (So., B/F), Rebecca Phillips (Fr/, M/F), Lisette Shallop (Fr., B), Chandler Storcella (Fr., F). Outlook: Graduation took a toll on the Eagle, but they will be looking to quickly fill the gaps and stay motivated. There is solid leadership on the team and that will help ease the growing pains. South reached the state quarterfin­als last year and will primed to challenge again this season.
