TRENTON » Two women were shot and injured early Tuesday during separate incidents in the capital city, including a victim who suffered a gunshot wound to her head and another who suffered a gunshot wound to the butt.

The first shooting occurred about 12:20 a.m. in the area of Calhoun Street and Fairway Drive. Trenton Police responded to the shooting and upon arrival observed a black vehicle speeding away. Patrol units pulled the vehicle over near the intersection of Calhoun Street and Pennington Avenue and found an 18-year-old female passenger suffering from a gunshot wound to her buttocks, police said. The teenager told police she was inside the vehicle when she heard gunshots and realized she had been hit. Medics transported her to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment to injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The second shooting occurred about 1:40 a.m. on Sweets Avenue when a gunman shot a 38-year-old woman in the head. Prior to the shooting, the victim and the gunman were engaging in a verbal argument, during which time the gunman became enraged and fired his weapon, according to police. Medics rushed the 38-year-old to the trauma center, where she was listed in stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon.

The Mercer County Shooting Response Team was investigating both incidents, and no arrests were announced as of Tuesday afternoon. Anyone with information on either shooting is urged to contact the Trenton Police Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
