John Maciolek, Jr.,94, of Manchester Township passed away at the NJ Veteran’s Memorial Home, Vineland on Friday, September 1, 2017. John said his goodbyes so he could join his family in heaven, who he deeply missed. He will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man. Those who knew him will tell you that John was a great story teller and enjoyed a good laugh. He always had a warm smile and a kind greeting to those he met.

John was born in Lawrenceville, NJ and was a long time Hamilton resident before moving to Whiting, NJ in 2000.

After he graduated from Hamilton High West, Class of 1941, he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served from 1942 thru 1946 as a Pharmacist’s Mate First Class v-6. He also served in the USN Fleet Marine Corps, 6th Division at Guadalcanal, Okinawa, Guam and China.

After he was honorable discharged from the Navy, his career path took him to John L Roebling Steel and then to DeLaval Turbine where he worked for 24 years before taking an early retirement. He worked another 10 years for Carter Wallace.

A die heart Eagles fan, he was a sports enthusiast and loved being outdoors. He loved playing soccer and scored the winning goal to win the 1940 NJ State Soccer Championship for: Mercerville Boys Club Juniors. In his younger years he played football and baseball for the Trenton Wildcats. He also enjoyed roller and ice skating and tennis. In his later year he slowed down a bit to go fresh and salt water fishing and crabbing. But his all time favorite sport was golf. He played every chance he could. He often shared many stories of his golfing days and was proud of the fact that he golfed at every golf course in NJ, which he estimated were 50. When he wasn’t golfing he loved going down the shore. Pt. Pleasant was his favorite beach, he enjoyed sitting on a bench watching boats going in and out of the inlet. He was a member of the Whitehead Veterans club and member of the American Legion Post 458.
