Arrest After Shooting: Nathan Beckett, 39, and David McClure, 27, were arrested early Sunday morning following a shooting near the intersection of New York and North Olden Avenues. The men are not charged in connection with the shooting at this time, however police smelled gun powder coming from inside the car they occupied and also found a loaded handgun in the vehicle. Officials say cops heard the gunshots around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, then saw two vehicles speed away from the location of the gunfire. Cops then stopped both vehicles, one of which turned out not to be suspicious in nature. The second vehicle, however, was occupied by Beckett and McClure and reeked of gunpowder, according to officials who say police seized the car they were in. Beckett and McClure are charged with weapons offenses, and may receive additional charges as the investigation continues. No one was injured during the shooting.
Attempted Murder: Andre Bland, 53, was arrested Friday for allegedly shooting a woman in the head three days prior. Officials say Bland is the gunman who shot a 38-year-old woman in the head last week during an argument on Chapel Street. The victim was rushed into emergency surgery and is expected to survive her injuries. After the shooting, warrants were issued for Bland’s arrest and he was later apprehended by members of the U.S. Marshals Service. Knife and Crack Pipe: Fred Moore, 39, was arrested after police allegedly found him in possession of a bladed weapon and a glass crack pipe. Officials say detectives were patrolling the area of Pearl and Hudson streets when they saw Moore speaking with another male. As cops got closer to the men, they saw a crack pipe in plain view behind Moore’s ear, which sparked further investigation revealing the knife. Moore is charged with drug and weapons offenses.
Knife Threat: Michael Banks, 32, was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly pulled a knife on his girlfriend, then later hit her in front of police. Officials say cops were sent to an Elm Street home after Banks threw a knife at his 34-year-old girlfriend during an argument. The knife caused a superficial wound to the back of the woman’s hand. When police arrived at the house, they heard someone screaming down the street and proceeded to investigate the matter. And that’s when police witnessed Banks hitting the woman near an intersection, so they arrested him. Banks is charged with two counts of assault and related weapons offenses.
