Cortez Hendryx said he just wanted to get home Monday night to watch his struggling Los Angeles Dodgers.

“Went to CVS and grabbed a sandwich at the pizza place. I was on my way home,” Hendryx said.

Just minutes away, Hendryx, 76, said he watched one vehicle strike a man as he crossed Nottingham Way near Sculptors Way shortly before 8 p.m.

“The guy flew up in the air and landed right on my windshield. Then he fell onto the road. I had driven a little ways but turned around. I thought the guy was dead but could see him breathing.”

Police said the victim was a 59-year-old Hamilton resident. Police only said that Hendryx’s 2002 Lincoln Town Car struck the victim.

The victim wore dark clothing and had been pushing a red lawnmower, rake and gas can. Plus, he toted a plastic bag which held an assortment of clothing items that were scattered on Nottingham Way.

Hamilton police, firefighters and EMTs responded. The victim lay motionless on the street and delivered no visible movement as a squad of supporters rolled him to an ambulance.

A police officer in the Hamilton Township Traffic Division said the victim suffered a broken arm.

Eyewitnesses or persons with info about the accident can phone the Hamilton Twp. Police at (609) 581-4024.

Hendryx, who owns a white Lincoln, said he felt shaken up but ready to get home.

“Just want to get home and watch the Dodgers. Been a fan since Jackie Robinson,” Hendryx said.

Bad news continued for Hendryx as his lifetime favorite Los Angeles Dodgers dropped their 11th straight game.
