Ernest W. Ponder, 93, of Trenton

Mr. Ernest W. Ponder age 93 of Trenton was born in Forsythe Georgia to the late Clifford and Lillian Ponder. He departed his life Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the Water’s Edge Rehabilitation Center at age 93.

Ernest was employed by Thermoid Rubber Co. as well as Westinghouse and later retired from TRANE.

In 1948 Ernest became a member of the Galilee Baptist Church. Ernest was one of the founding members of the Male Chorus and the only surviving member of the original Male Chorus of GBC.

Predeceased by his parents Clifford Ponder and Lillian Bell-Ponder sisters Lilla Ponder, Geneva Green, Estelle Ponder, Carrie Ponder-Gentry, Susie Ponder, Nettie McCarver, Mildred Ponder-Patterson; brothers Nellion Ponder (Louise) and Edwin Ponder.

Ernest – Daddy, FATH, Dad and Pop-Pop, leaves to cherish his precious memories, sister-in-law Dorothy Ponder, his three daughters, Olivia L. Ponder, Carol A. Ponder and Gloria L. McAchen (Robert); five grandchildren, Cherria Y. Brown, Keshia L. Brown, Clifford L. Childs, Tameshia K. Russell and Gary W. Ponder; six great-grandchildren, Tameshia K. Brown, Lacara R. Horne (Tyree), Michael K. Powell Jr., Kasaan S. Newsome, and Alyssa M. Russell, KayonTaj Childs; three great great-grandchildren, Jami T. Brown, Kyla K. Perry and Lela R. Horne with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 11am Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Galilee Baptist Church, 440 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Trenton, NJ. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service at the church. Interment will be 9am Wed Sept. 20, 2017 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home.
