Cleanup after murder seems too little too late
A revisit to the 400 block of Lamberton St. found a cross, rose and candle left in memory of Lillian Duran.
Police identified Duran, 43, as the deceased woman discovered inside a garbage bag on Sept. 4.
An interesting situation has occurred since the Duran find.
City workers collected trash and cleared weeds from in front of the shuttered Lee’s Deli & Grocery.
The clean up suggests that weeds and garbage impacts criminal behavior.
No argument here which means that Trenton should consider a full court press on cleaning up. Proactivity works with police work and community maintenance.
A “Keep NC (North Carolina) Beautiful” campaign noted:
Clean streets and a clean neighborhood send a signal that people care about where they live and work, and indicates they don’t have any tolerance for disobedience or criminal activity. When someone litters, others think it is ok and soon more litter accumulates. Before you know it, you or your community is covered in trash.
No doubt this situation registers as familiar for many Trenton residents.
Maintenance post murder seems almost pointless. You can improve your chances for a safer community by breaking out the brooms. Sweep.
Lamberton St. experienced two murders between Friday night and early Saturday morning. Obviously, other trash needs to be removed.
And the two hookers seen on Sunday morning? Uh, definitely part of the problems on Lamberton St.
Authorities have not offered information regarding the cause of death for Duran, the mother of two sons.
Police have not announced any arrests for a crime allegedly connected to drug dealers and addiction.
