The new Starbucks of Trenton will not be open for business during Friday’s National Coffee Day but java lovers can count on fresh brew by November. “It’s looking like we will have our first Starbucks opening in the middle of November. I’m excited,” Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson said.

“I know that some people thought we could never attract a national business like Starbucks here but it’s done. A small city receiving big corporation business is a major deal. We’re moving in the right direction.”

Window signs announce “Coming Soon” while open front doors allowed passersby a glimpse inside the former AT&T store.

Camille Hymes, regional vice president for Mid-Atlantic operations for Starbucks, previously told The Trentonian.

“We considered the impact Starbucks could have in this part of Trenton, and whether it would be a viable site in terms of driving our business and being profitable, while also serving the needs of the community with new jobs and economic investment. Both of those considerations — community impact and impact on business — led to this site being right for us.”

Jackson said he had a walk through the business located on South Warren St. While the mayor predicted major success for Starbucks, he said the coffee chain’s commitment to community may serve as the most important bottom line.

“The fact that Starbucks will offer job training in the rear of the building remains a key part of the company investing in Trenton. I’m excited for our young adults who will receive on-site training. It’s a significant piece of this city’s rebuilding puzzle,” Jackson noted.

Starbucks’ joins a South Warren St. revitalization as several new businesses have already opened while the Café Olé building has reportedly sold.
