Walter Frederick Bowen passed away peacefully Sunday, October 1, 2017 at home with his family by his side. He was 93.

Walter was born September 24, 1924 in Trenton, NJ to Ralph and Sarah Bowen. He was the last surviving sibling of 11 children. He spent his childhood in Morrisvill­e, PA.

Walter proudly enlisted into the United States Navy to serve his country in World War II on the USS Albemarle as an Aviation Machinist. Upon returning from war, Walter became employed with Kushner’s Market of Trenton, NJ as a meat cutter, before becoming employed and retiring with Acme Markets as a meat cutter and as Meat Department manager with 26 years of service.

Walter was the husband of Edna L. Bowen (nee Bigley). They were happily married for 65 years before she passed away in 2014. They shared their life together as residents of Ewing, NJ and Morrisvill­e, PA before moving to Wrightstow­n, PA.

He enjoyed the challenges of putting together all types of puzzles and playing cards. He liked to relax by reading books of all sorts and artistic coloring with colored pencils. Walter was an avid auto racing fan. He appreciate­d and enjoyed the time that his team of caregivers spent with him.

Walter was the proud father of Bruce and his wife, Lynne Bowen of Wrightstow­n, PA and loving grand pop to his grandpets Molly, Maggie and Jac Jac. He was the uncle of many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Walter’s Life Celebratio­n from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 6 and his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Swartz/Givnish Funeral Home, 323 Washington Avenue, Newtown, PA 18940. Interment will follow at Wrightstow­n Friends Cemetery.
