Father whose son took drugs to school twice busted for heroin again
TRENTON » A city man who was indicted on two counts of child endangerment after his toddler son took drugs to school twice last year is in trouble with the law again.
Maurice Leonard Jr., 29, was arrested againWednesday afternoon when cops conducted an operation in the 200 block of Hamilton Avenue and allegedly witnessed him engage in several drug deals.
Officials say detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit saw Leonard sell drugs to 51-year-old Angela Vassey, who police also arrested after seizing a gram of crack cocaine from her.
During that same operation, police allegedly saw Marquise Allen, 31, sell drugs to 31-year-old Jorge Rodriguez, who was arrested after police seized two decks of heroin from him.
Detectives then saw Leonard and Allen jump in a car with 24-year-old Kevin Seigle and drive away. When police conducted a motor vehicle stop, they found that Leonard had 36 decks of heroin, and Allen had six grams of crack cocaine in his possession. Seigle was arrested in connection with outstanding
warrants.
Leonard and relatives made headlines in September last year after his 5-year-old son, a student at the International Academy of Trenton, took 30 decks of heroin to school in his lunch box. Leonard and his girlfriend, who is not the boy’s mother, were charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Then a month later, a teacher at the kid’s school found crack cocaine inside his folder.
Leonard was acquitted of weapons offenses last month in a case that accused him of having a firearm in December 2015. In addition to the child endangerment case, Leonard has two other active matters pending in the courts: a Hamilton armed robbery case and a Trenton drug case that was remanded to municipal court.
