The Trentonian (Trenton, NJ)

Here are our Prep All-Stars

- Staff Report

It was another banner season in the prep ranks as Lawrenceville claimed a Mercer County Tournament and Prep A championships.

Princeton Day once again reached the final of the Prep B tournament, Hun battled every game, Stuart continues to take steps forward, Pennington brought along a lot of young players and Peddie got better as the season progressed.

All this was achieved by some very impressive players who have been selected to The Trentonian’s 2017 All-Prep team. OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR — TESS MALONEY (LAWRENCEVILLE) » The Ohio State-bound Maloney was a force for the Big Red with 17 goals and 16 assists. It seemed the bigger the stage the greater the performance by Maloney. MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR — GWEN ALLEN (PRINCETON DAY) » A terrific transition player, Allen was the stabilizing factor in the midfield for the Panthers. Allen possess a great hit and when called upon she can put the ball in the back of the cage. CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR — LAUREN CLOUGHEN (LAWRENCEVILLE) » While the Big Red was a potent offensive team, the defense makes it all work. A tough defender and one not afraid of any challenge Cloughen was one of the best.

CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR — VAL RADVANY (PRINCETON DAY) » Radvany is not only one of the best defensive players in the area, but she possesses a great hit. When Radvany wasn’t shutting down the opposition, she was aiding the Panthers on both offensive and defensive corners. She had seven goals and 15 assists.

GOALIE OF THE YEAR — LEXI HAUSHEER (PRINCETON DAY) » Just a sophomore, Hausheer continues to shine in the cage. Whether it be a diving save to deny the opposition or directing the defense, Hausheer is always on the top of her game and only getting better.

COACH OF THE YEAR — LISA EWANCHYNA (LAWRENCEVILLE) » No matter the makeup of any Big Red team, Ewanchyna always seems to get the best out of all the players. The success at Lawrenceville is attributed to her coaching skill, demeanor and drive.

SASHA SINDHWANI (PRINCETON DAY) » A very talented player, Sindhwani used her stick skills to score a prep high 24 goals. She was a key ingredient to the success of the Panthers and she’ll return next season.

ANNIE MORRIS (LAWRENCEVILLE) » Morris just continued to grow as a player and became an offensive force for the Big Red. She tallied 13 goals and four assists and was a key in the Big Red’s tourney run.

MEG HILLMAN (LAWRENCEVILLE) » Like her sister, Grace, before her Meg has left her mark on the Lawrenceville program. A solid transition player, Hillman was a key to the Big Red moving the ball into the circle.

MEG BARNES (LAWRENCEVILLE) » A player with a great sense of game awareness and knowledge, Barnes always seems to be in the right place at the right time. The junior caged 13 goals and had seven assists.

CLAUDINE CHIMINSKI (HUN) » Plenty of games were settled in the midfield this season for the Raiders and Chiminski was more than capable protecting Hun’s turf. A solid stick handler and a tough defender. EMMA GARRY (PENNINGTON) » One of the bright young stars to arrive on the scene, Garry is a top-notch defender who doesn’t back away from a challenge. She was the anchor and the leader of the Pennington defense.

MEGHAN DONAHUE (HUN) » In a year when scoring goals was at a premium, Donahue accepted the task of leading the Raiders defense and did it with skill, determination and leadership.

ALI HANNAH (STUART) »

A gifted athlete, Hannah can play anywhere on the field and qualify as the best at the position. The Tartans were a young team and Hannah’s skill was needed on the defensive.

SAM JOHNSON (STUART) » After missing a season with injuries, Johnson returned in 2017 and had an amazing season for Stuart. There were many games it was her play in the cage that was the difference.
