The Colonial Valley Conference displayed some great field hockey this fall and several teams performed well in the county and state tournament­s.

All this success is attributed to some very talented players who showed a ton of skill, determinat­ion, finesse and poise on the field.

It’s time to recognize those players:

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR — SHEA WALSH, ROBBINSVIL­LE » Walsh led the area in scoring with 31 goals and was the catalyst for so much of the Ravens’ success. A determined player around the cage, Walsh will return in 2018.

CO-MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR — SIERRA WOJCIK, ALLENTOWN » Wojcik is a fierce competitor and a student of the game. She has the ability to control the midfield, start the Redbirds’ transition game and put the ball in the cage as evidenced by her eight goals and 13 assists. CO-MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR — AMANDA ALLEN, ROBBINSVIL­LE » There is no challenge that Allen won’t accept. A tireless worker, her play in the midfield has been the key to so much of the Ravens’ success. A player who leads by example, Allen tallied 10 goals and dished out 13 assists.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR — LILY LEONARD, PRINCETON » After a tough start, the Tigers turned things around and one of the reasons was the leadership and play of Leonard on defense. When the Tigers needed a defensive stand she delivered.

GOALIE OF THE YEAR — KATIE WHITE, ALLENTOWN » White missed a lot of 2016 with an injury, but she made up for it with a banner 2017. A player who always knows where the

ball is and anticipate­s well. Her play allowed the other Redbirds to take more offensive chances.

COACH OF THE YEAR — MEGAN ERRICO, LAWRENCE » Each year Errico has been guiding the Cardinals they have gotten better and it all culminated with a successful 2017. Errico has a deep drive and strong desire to make the Cardinals better.

MARY BELLOTTI, ALLENTOWN » Few players have the skill set Bellotti brings to the field. She has scored 46 goals the last two years and earned every one of the them. A powerful player in the circle, she was the Redbirds’ go-to player.

KRISTEN OBERG, HIGHTSTOWN » Oberg caged 17 goals and it was her play early that got the Rams off to a fast start and propelled them to a great season. Oberg was a very dangerous player with the ball on her stick.

KELSEY FITHEN, HOPEWELL VALLEY » Fithen is a player who combines skill and a great resolve on the field. She tallied a team high 15 goals and always seemed to score big goals for the Bulldogs.

OLIVIA CORSO, LAWRENCE

» One of the most steady players in the area, Corso worked hard for her goals and for her team as displayed by her 12 goals and 12 assists. She was more than capable to cage the ball and possessed a great sense of where her teammates were.

MAGGIE BLUNDI, NOTRE DAME »>> A player who saw her 2016 season shortened by injury, she was a force in 2017 with 27 goals and a catalyst for so much of what the Irish were able to accomplish this season.

MARIANNA LOPEZ-ONA, PRINCETON » A focus of many opponents’ defensive strategy, Lopez-One worked hard every game and usually won the battle against the opposition. A talented player, she can do it all on the field scoring eight goals and helping on seven more

KILEIGH PFLUGER, HOPEWELL VALLEY » Pfluger was the key to the Bulldogs’ play in the midfield. A strong defender and a key component of the Hopewell Valley transition game, she is a player who developed a great game sense.

MEGAN TESTA, ROBBINSVIL­LE » If there was a most courageous player it would go to Testa. After suffering a serious knee injury in the spring, she worked tireless to get back on the field. She scored eight goals and had 11 assists.

ALEX PRITCHARD, ALLENTOWN » It all starts with the defense and Pritchard did a great job in making the Redbirds one of the toughest teams around. Pritchard did a great job of keeping the circle clear.

CAROLINE BARTOSIK, LAWRENCE » A very unselfish player, Bartosik moved to defense this season to help the team out and proved to be a top defender. Her play on the corners helped the Cardinals as she had nine goals.

AVA SCUDILLO, NOTRE DAME » Scudillo was instrument­al in keeping the opposition away from the Irish cage with her uncanny ability to find the shortest route to the ball and to getting the ND transition game moving.

JACKIE MATSON, HIGHTSTOWN » An offensive-minded player, Matson was all over the field for the Rams. She is capable of finding the backboard and stopping a defender from threatenin­g the Rams’ goal.

KATE ROGERS, PRINCETON » Rogers always brings the right demeanor to the field and as a goalie it means a lot to stay focused and in the moment. A player who just got better as the season progressed.
