Zenovia “Sandy” Zahirnyj Cook, 70, of Hamilton Township died peacefully on Friday December 1, 2017 at the Compassion­ate Care Hospice at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton.

Born in regensburg, Germany, Mrs. Cook immigrated to the USA in February of 1954 and became a naturalize­d citizen in May of 1961. She attended St. Mary’s Assumption School; Class of 1962 and attended Hamilton High School West. She retired in 2008 after more then 25 years of service as Supervisor of Disability Claims with the State of New Jersey, Department of Labor and Workforce Developmen­t at the John Fitch Plaza offices. Sandy enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with family and her many friends. She enjoyed walks in area parks and the solitude of being at home.

Daughter of the late Stephan and Kataryna Puszkar zahirnyj; mother of the late Stephanie marie Cook; sister of the late Jacqueline and Irene Zahirnyj.

She is survived by her son Robert A. Cook of Manahawkin; a daughter Marcia A. Cook of Hamilton; a granddaugh­ter Gabriella Cook; two brothers Zenon Zahirnyj of Novo Necolai, Ukraine and John Zahirnyj of Nashua, New Hampshire; two nieces Nella and her husband Maxim Ausheva of Ukraine and Rebecca and her husband Frank Zemcik of Bordentown City; as well as her grand niece Sofia and grand nephew Michael.

Funeral Parastas Service will be conducted Tuesday December 5th at 10:30 am at the Winowicz Funeral Home 308 Adeline Street, Trenton with Very Rev. Fr Taras Lonchyna, Pastor, St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church officiatin­g. Burial will be in Our Lady of Sorrows Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Langhorne PA. Calling hours will be Monday December 4 from 6 to 8 pm and again Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30pm at the Funeral Home. Panakhada will be Monday at 6pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made in Sandy’s memory to a charity or organizati­on of the donors choosing.
