Split Decision: Should Wentz be considered for NFL MVP?
OK, yes, Carson Wentz is clearly a very good quarterback, and yes, of course, the Eagles have been flying as a result of his great play.
But don’t worry, Philly fans: Nick Foles will be just fine.
Pssst: It’s the offense, and the Doug Pederson/Frank Reich gameplans, that’s the engine of this team. Sure, Wentz has been fantastic, but as I sit here today, I’d bet Foles will do just fine.
As good as Wentz? Nah. But serviceable, and perhaps serviceable enough to take the Birds right to the Super Bowl.
As a result of this line of thinking, nope, Wentz is not the NFL MVP.
For that award, look west young man and Russell Wilson. Talk about the engine of an offense. Take Wilson and his skillset out of Seattle, and you have a cellar-dweller. Take Wilson out of Seattle, and you’d see a whole different game plan. Take Wilson out of Seattle, and you’ve got bupkis.
Wilson is the clear MVP. Sure, he lost in Jacksonville last week, but that’s a whole lot better than losing at Miami, amirite Tom Brady truthers? (Newsflash: The Patriots would’ve been just fine with Jimmy Garoppolo at QB. You think they’re rethinking the brilliance of that trade? Unless Jimmy G. doesn’t sign a contract and the 49ers franchise him and he goes back on the market in 2019 and Belichick signs him … evil genius. Anyway …)
Anyway Eagles fans, sorry, but Carson Wentz, while wonderful, is not the MVP. It’s Russell Wilson all the way.
Just be glad I didn’t go with my backup pick — Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee. Dallas is two different teams with and without Lee.
