Talk about undocumented people not paying into the system is malarkey

- L.A. Parker is a Trentonian columnist.

Back Talk smack talkers and detractors who leave anonymous KKK-style messages on my office phone rarely gain attention.

For the record, phone Nazis should know their bigotry gets deleted five seconds into the ignorant spiel which usually disrespects African-Americans and Latinos. So, better get your Nwords in furiously fast or else your insights receive quick deletion.

Plus, your cowardice speaks volumes about your pussyfooted opinions. Thanks for thinking of me though. With a near 30-year career as a writer/columnist in the City of Trenton, my skin can endure just about any verbal assault.

Now, about that Back Talk entry. Let’s refresh your memory about comments made involving a deported Mexican couple. Our reader penned these thoughts.

“I’d like to comment on the news story about a Mexican couple deported after 30 years here in the USA and raising a family left behind. Sad, right? Hold on. First, they entered illegally. Next, how many federal and state tax returns did they file over the 30 years and who paid for their children’s education and medical expenses? So spare me this criticism of ICE and the unfair treatment of this couple, but multiply their scenario by the thousands. Bet L.A. Parker has a tear jerking column on their plight.”

Oscar and Humberta Campos lived in Bridgeton, New Jersey until being deported last week. They boarded a flight to Mexico City out of Newark leaving behind children aged 16, 22 and 24.

First, big ups to The Trentonian response.

All this talk about undocumented people not paying into the system is malarkey. As stated, they pay more than many people understand.

Secondly, a couple living in the U.S. without any criminal activity for 30 years deserves an opportunity to gain citizenship. Period.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients, 800,000 strong and most of them significant contributors to U.S. interests, deserve permanent residency if that’s their desire.

Furthermore, the commenter omitted the part about employers who hire undocumented workers on the cheap, cheating U.S. coffers out of money. He missed the part about slum landlords who rent deplorable apartments and houses without registering these death traps.

Simply amazing how “Make America Great Again” enthusiasts forget that their ancestors slaughtered, enslaved, and delivered a multitude of sins against humanity, then started singing “This Land (was) Your Land, This Land Is Our Land.”

The United States has underachieved in most idealistic promises regarding life, liberty, pursuit of happiness and justice for all.

If The Trentonian reader referenced “tear jerking” for a recent column about a pregnant woman being unfairly treated by her landlord, understand that this Latina lives in Trenton as a bona fide U.S. citizen, entitled to all freedoms and protections offered by this nation.

The Latino American Legal Defense & Education Fund (LALDEF) organization and three people responded to her plight: Assemblywoman Liz Muoio’s office, Mayor Eric Jackson and another city landlord who offered a better living space.

The fact that city council members did and said nothing while the Inspections Department gave the landlord extreme latitude regarding 50 violations and improvements. It’s a crying shame.

Even murderers, rapists and corrupt politicians receive adequate shelter and protection from despicable roommates.
