Julius Campbell,

Jr., 73, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017. He was born in Trenton, NJ on February 10, 1944 to the late Julius & Marie T. Campbell, Sr. A graduate of Trenton Central High School, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Delaware State College (now Delaware State University) in 1967. After his college graduation, he was drafted in the U.S. Army and served most of his time in the Turkish Embassy as a military advisor. Following his military experience, he returned to the United States and enrolled in the Graduate School of Social Work at Rutgers University where he obtained a Master’s degree in Social Work in 1972.

He began his profession­al work career in his field of interest as a Planner Coordinato­r for the Central New Jersey Health Planning Council. He became an Urban Health Coordinato­r for the New Jersey Regional Medical Program and then as an Urban Health Coordinato­r at the Urban Health Institute for the City of Plainfield, NJ. Julius also served as the Chief Executive Officer at Ewing Residentia­l Center. He retired as a Program Analyst for the New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Youth and Family Services in 2010. His love in working with youth led him to serve as an adjunct professor at Mercer County Community College for the past 14 years.

Julius was actively and continuall­y involved in community service for the past 45 years. He served as the president of the board of trustees for years at the Henry J. Austin Health Center in Trenton. He continued to serve as a faithful member for 20 years. He also served as a member of various boards in Trenton which includes the Mercer Street Friends Center, Cadwalader Asbury United Methodist Church and the Union Industrial Homes (now known as the Family Partners).

Julius became a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity through the Delta Upsilon chapter in 1972. He served Delta Upsilon with a great deal of pride and dignity and became a lifetime member. Julius held various leadership positions with the fraternity including the chapter’s Basileus (President), Vice Basileus, Keeper of Record and Seals, Chairperso­n of the Reclamatio­n & Retention Committee. He was also an active Board member of the Omega Delta Upsilon Foundation. He was recognized as the chapter’s Omega Man of The Year which is the chapter’s highest individual award in both 2003 and 2013.

Julius was predecease­d by his wife Sandra Yvonne Campbell and his parents, Julius and Marie T. Campbell, Sr.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharine Lugo and husband John; daughter Amia Goglia and husband Steven; step-son Michael Thompson; his sister Joyce M. Kersey of Trenton; a nephew Robert Kersey, III and wife Diana of Mount Pocono, PA; a niece Tasha Kersey of Princeton, NJ; grandchild­ren Malcolm Broadway, Alex us Broadway, Antoine Broadway, John ‘J.J.’ Lugo, and Arianna Goglia; two great grandchild­ren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. A devoted family friend Sonia Williamson who was his care-giver.

Calling hours will be from 6pm to 8pm, Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Hughes Funeral Home located at 324 Bellevue Ave. Trenton, NJ 08618. Memorial by members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity at 7pm., (No viewing after this time.) Funeral service will be 10 am Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Union Baptist Church, 301 Pennington Ave., Trenton, NJ. Calling hours will be 8 am until time of service at the church.
