Evangelist­a (Mendez) Leon, 77, of Ewing, entered into God’s eternal rest on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Compassion­ate Care Hospice Unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton. Born in Barcelonet­a, Puerto Rico, she had resided in the U.S. since 1963. She worked as both a machinist/assembly worker for Circle F Industries in Trenton and later as a home health nursing aide for Mercer Street Friends.

Evangelist­a loved to dance, and was a consummate care giver always looking out for others. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmothe­r, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Daughter of the late Vincente and Luisa (Mendez) Colon; beloved wife of the late Migdonio Leon; sister of the late Sara Ramirez, Consuelo Toro, Juan Colon, and Ruben Colon; Evangelist­a is survived by her two children, Helen and her husband John Sanderson, and Enrique Ortiz Jr.; five grandchild­ren, Jasmine Lee Davis, Xavier Lathel Williams Jr., Carmen Charles Gee Jr., Enrique Ortiz III, and Cora Lynn Ortiz; two great grandchild­ren, Colby Chauncey Austin and Zoe Lee Kornegay; four siblings, Clemencia Mendez, Leonida Rivera, Ana Tirado, and Emilia Mendez; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

Catholic funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Hamilton Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse­Mercervill­e Rd., Hamilton, NJ 08619. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, 1800 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton, NJ. Family and friends may call Friday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
