TRENTON » A city man who beat a murder rap – and later almost died after being blasted in the streets when he was set free – is back in jail.

Zaire Jackson, 23, can thank fugitive Ajderiah Ivey for that. Ivey, Jackson and Allen Edwards were nabbed Monday when authorities took them into custody at an apartment on the 500 block of Hoffman Avenue, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Ivey, 24, was wanted on a warrant for violating probation. But when cops got to the apartment, a simple fugitive from justice situation turned into something more when they discovered guns. A search turned up an assault-style rifle, high-capacity magazines, and two handguns – defaced 9 mm and .45-caliber semi-automatics.

Ivey and Jackson were charged with multiple gun charges. Edwards, 26, faces the same charges as well as another count of being a felon in possession of a gun. They’re all being held at the county jail.

“Our collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service continues to help us apprehend dangerous fugitives and to take more and more deadly weapons off of our streets,” Sheriff Jack Kemler said in a statement.

Jackson was acquitted earlier this year of the 2012 murder of Irvin “Swirv” Jackson, who was not related.

Prosecutors believed it was a revenge killing because Jackson thought “Swirv” was among a group of men who had shot up a home he was staying at following an Easter Sunday fight that grew out of control when guns were apparently flashed.

Jackson was acquitted in February. He was wounded, and at one point in critical condition, following an April shooting in the West Ward.

He got blasted on Oakland Street and Hoffman Avenue, according to published reports, but apparently recovered enough to get locked up by authorities again.
