ROBBINSVILLE » With three seniors returning from a 15-win squad, the Robbinsville High girls basketball team isn’t surprised by its hot start to the season.

In fact, they expected it. The Ravens made it three wins from three with an easy 44-22 victory over Hamilton West on Tuesday night.

“We had confidence going in,” head coach Joe Washington said. “We got three seniors coming back and we’re going after it right away with them. We’ve got some sophomores who are stepping in — 3-0 is where we wanted to be at this point.”

Fiona Aromando shook off a turned ankle and 1-for-8 start to finish with a game-high 16 points. The senior connected on a trio of 3s and made six of her last nine shots.

Danielle Heulitt added 12 points and Julia Cueto scored seven of her eight in the third quarter as the Ravens pulled away in the second half. Aromando, Heulitt and Cueto — the three aforementioned seniors — combined for 36 of the 44 points.

“We only lost two girls from last year,” Heulitt said. “We came back strong.”

Robbinsville finished 6-for-17 from behind the arc, while Hamilton went 1-for-11.

“When our defense plays well, usually that carries over to the offense,” Washington said. “That’s what we try to pride ourselves on.”

The Hornets (0-2) cut the deficit to 11 with the first basket of the second half, but the Ravens (3-0) went on a 13-0 run to put the game away.

While Allentown, Ewing and Notre Dame are considered the clear favorites in the Colonial Valley Conference, Robbinsville, which won at Trenton in the opener, is trying to separate itself from the rest of the league.

“When we talk about team goals, we’re looking to improve on last year,” Washington said. “We went over .500, and that’s not good enough now. We want to improve on that record and look to move ourselves into that top group of basketball teams.”
