Arthur S. Bentley, 85, of Forked River passed away peacefully on January 14, 2018 at his home. Art was born in Yardville Heights and formerly of Hamilton Township moving to Forked River in 1963. Mr. Bentley was a self-employed carpenter and had also worked for the Lacey Township Board of Education in the grounds and security department­s. He served in the US Marines during the Korean War, belonged to the VFW of Bamber Lakes, and the American Legion, John Wesley Taylor Post #232. Art was a member of the Lacey United Methodist Church, and avid fisherman and hunter who also enjoyed working in his shop. He was fluent at playing darts and horseshoes and was a fan of the Redskins.

Mr. Bentley is predecease­d by his wife of 60 years, Patricia M. Bentley, in 2016 and sister Joan, 1988. Surviving are 3 sons, Thomas and his wife, Carolyn of Bamber Lake, Richard and his wife Niki of Bayville, and Matthew and his wife Jennifer of Forked River, one daughter Jeanette Pulcine and her husband Dwayne of Forked River, 8 grandchild­ren and 2 great-grandchild­ren. Also surviving are his 2 sisters in law, Virginia Lewellyn and Jeanette Lockwood.

A viewing will be held at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Rt. 9 (aka 130 North Main Street), Forked River, NJ 08731 on Thursday January 18, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, and on Friday January 19, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am with the Reverend Linda Applegate officiatin­g. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers contributi­ons may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, PO Box 459 Grand Central Station New York, NY 10163 in Art’s memory.
