HAMILTON » It was two wrestling teams with similar aggressive styles going at in Nottingham’s Swamp on Tuesday night.

With that in mind, it should come as no surprise it was the more physically mature and stronger squad prevailing as Trenton rolled past Nottingham, 54-21.

With the victory, Trenton continued its fast start and is now 12-2. The Tornadoes won’t pick up much in the way of points from this match because Nottingham has a low total and is now 4-9, but they are very much in contention for one of the eight Central Jersey Group V berths.

Trenton, of course, also posted what’s a very rare victory over the Swamprats.

“We haven’t beaten them since I’ve been with the program,” said Trenton coach Rob Prunetti, who was an assistant at Trenton for three years before assuming the head duties four years ago. “We hadn’t beaten Ewing either.”

Trenton finally got the better of Ewing in a close thriller over the weekend, but there was never any doubt it was not going to be a tight call against a Nottingham team with seven first-year wrestlers in its lineup.

Still, there were some entertaining and competitive matches and at the top of that list was the 160-pound match between Trenton’s Messiah Cook and Jerry Andaluz.

This went back and fourth with little too choose before Andaluz finally took control with an escape and takedown in the second period of overtime for a 10-8 victory after the two finished regulation tied at 7-all.

“Jerry will be going 152 at the (Mercer County Tournament), but we wanted to have him up to get a tough match,” said Nottingham coach Jason Marasco.

Another close bout occurred at 220 where Trenton’s Naze Washington nipped Marc Jordine with a throw right before the third-period buzzer for a takedown and 5-3 win.

The 126-pound bout was also a grind before Trenton’s George Rios held off Wild Jeff Fleus, 12-7.

Every other bout resulted in a pin and some were of the fast variety. Heading up that list was the 11-second fall recorded by Trenton’s Carlos Sanchez at 113 pounds. The Tornadoes also got firstperiod pins in the lower weights by Tavon Rogers and Quameer Brown in the last bout of the evening.
