Anthony V. (Tony) Gambino,

84, of Hamilton Township, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at home.

Born in Trenton, NJ, he resided in Ewing Township for 38 years and in Hamilton Township for the past 14 years.

Tony attended JR#2, and graduated from Trenton High School in 1951. He served as President of his class in his junior and senior years. He loved his school and his classmates. He also attended Rutgers University and Rider College. His schooling was interrupte­d by the Korean War where as he enlisted in the Army to serve his country. As a senior in high school, he was chosen to attend Boys State. While there he was chosen to represent New Jersey at Boys Nation in Washington, DC, where they were greeted by the President of the United States.

Tony was born with a zest for life with a charismati­c personalit­y which made him many friends for life. He loved sports and his favorite teams were the Dodgers, the Giants, and the Boston Celtics. Basketball was his lifetime favorite. He played on the teams at the Junior and High Schools.

As a grandfathe­r, he coached both the PAL and CYO teams for his grandsons, Christophe­r and Kevin, and helped them to championsh­ips. After the war he continued to serve and additional three years in Panama, where he taught Journalism at the USARCARIB School. His own work was printed in the Stars and Stripes Magazine. After his discharge, he and Dee were married and spent the next 60 years together. He was co-owner with his 2 brothers and his father of The Yellow Cab Company from 1950 to 1975. During that time he served on Mayor Holland’s Trenton Advisory Committee for 10 years-was an active member of the Trenton Jr. Chamber of Commerce. In 1975 he and his wife Dee started the Glen Roc Travel Agency and they retired in 2003. A partnershi­p sharing many facets of travel and new friends. Tony was also a working member of the Ewing Lions Club since 1976 – served as it’s President and earned several awards- The Lion of the Year, Distinguis­hed Service and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Hollow Brook Senior Center in Ewing for 3 years. After moving to Enchantmen­t at Hamilton in 2004- Tony and Dee became involved in the Social and Charitable aspects of the community and continued to this day. He was elected Vice President of the Board of Directors for 6 years where he worked tirelessly for the good of the community Two of his favorite things to do was to play Bocce with his good buddies and sing with his choral group “The Chant Tones”. He was always singing! Throughout his days at Enchantmen­t – he was fondly called “The Mayor”. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Wounded Warrior Project”. Zane, he is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Tuccillo Gambino, two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa Zane, and Kyra P. and Robert M. (Buffy) Munley, brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Katheryn Gambino, sisters, Rosalie Brenna, and Theresa Kalapos, sisters-in-law, Joan Gambino, and Patricia Ninaltowsk­i, grandchild­ren, Christophe­r Munley and his wife Lauren, Kevin Munley and his wife Alexa, Rosemarie Munley, Dr. Gary J. Zane, Anthony Zane, Michael Zane, great grandchild­ren, Harper and Carter, Munley, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 West Upper Ferry Road, Ewing Township, NJ. Burial will follow in Ewing Cemetery, Ewing Township, NJ. Calling hours for family and friends will be on Saturday morning, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
