Taking a moment to honor the unsung players of the season

-

Each hockey season The Trentonian likes to take a moment to honor the players who might not always get all the accolades they deserve.

Yet, they are vital to the success of the team as they go above and beyond on and off the ice to make sure their team is given every chance to be the best it can be.

So, here are the 2017-18 Unsung Player Honorees:

STEVEN DOLDY (HOPEWELL VALLEY) » Doldy looks at every time on the ice as a chance to get better and in turn make the Bulldogs a better team. A hard worker, Doldy is a great teammate and a great competitor. Not a player who shies away from any situation and is one of the ’Dawgs’ leaders.

CHRIS BRAKE (HUN) » There is so much that Brake has done for the Raiders on and off the ice. A player who always puts the team and what needs to be done first, he brings a positive attitude to every practice and game.

COLE BOLTON (LAWRENCE) » Bolton has been the consummate team player. He does whatever is asked and does it with a passion for the game. A very unselfish player, he has been a great role model for the younger players and a great student-athlete.

KAZ MATSUO (LAWRENCEVILLE) » Matsuo worked tirelessly to get back on the ice from a fractured leg in the fall and when he returned it was like he was never away. A quiet team leader who is dependable, hardworking and a true plus to the Big Red lineup.

DAULTON BENNETT (NOTRE DAME) » Bennett brings a positive steady influence to the Irish and always gives 100 percent no matter what the situation. His calmness on the ice has been a key for ND and a hard worker who has developed into a strong leader on and off the ice.

ANDREW DICKINSON (NOTTINGHAM) » One of the West players on the Northstars, Dickinson has been a pleasant addition and one who has made his presence felt as a freshman. A tireless worker, he’s the first to arrive and the last to leave practice. A player with a bright future. BAILEY GUETENS (PAUL VI) » A player who will never be outworked, Guetens brings a lunch pail mentality to the ice and will not be denied. His positive attitude has been contagious as the Eagles continue to soar this season. SIDNEY SPENCER (PENNINGTON) » Spencer knew the defensive side was going to be an area of need for the Red Raiders so he willingly made the move to better help his team reach its full potential. It was a very short learning curve as Spencer plays the position like a veteran.

RYAN MCCORMICK (PRINCETON) » The Tigers needed a little help in the defensive end and McCormick rose to the occasion and has played the position solidly. A good offensive player, he sacrificed many points for the betterment of the team in a very unselfish way. BRIAN FRISTER (PRINCETON DAY) » Frister has done a little bit of everything for the Panthers this season and done it all very well. A true defenseman, he has shuttled back and forth with the offense and makes the adjustment without missing a stride. He has been a player who leads by example and a great role model for the younger players.

ANDREW LAURITS (ROBBINSVILLE) » One of the Allentown players on the Ravens, Laurits have been one of the quiet leaders of this team all season. When he’s not on the ice, he is a strong supporter of his teammates and always working to make the team better. Laurits plans to become an Army Ranger and he’ll be a great teammate in that venture, too.

SHANE BARRY (STEINERT) » There’s not a challenge Barry won’t accept and complete to the best of his ability. A team player who isn’t afraid to grind it out in the corners, his play has been a key to the improvement on the ice for the Spartans.

ZACH INVERSO (WEST WINDSORPLAINSBORO) » Inverso brings more than just talent to the team, he brings a great work ethic and a great feel for the game that has helped WW-P in many situations. One of the leaders, he has been a key in the development of younger players and brought the team to-
