Hunterdon Central sets up clash with Howell
Get ready for the biggest match of the year in New Jersey high school wrestling Friday night in Flemington.
Hunterdon Central did its part Thursday night by destroying Monroe by the score of 63-6 in a Central Jersey Group V semifinal.
The win set up a Central Jersey final Friday night with No. 1 ranked Howell (29-0) traveling to No. 4 Hunterdon Central (22-1) in a match that equates to the battle for the Group V state championship.
And the reason is the winner between Howell and Hunterdon Central will be a huge favorite to capture the group title on Sunday in Toms River.
Howell and Hunterdon Central collided in the Group V Group final last year with Howell prevailing by the score of 29-28. This time they will wrestle in the sectional final after Howell was moved from South Jersey to Central Jersey.
One other area team will also wrestle for a sectional title after Voorhees hammered Warren Hills, 4825, in North Jersey Section 2 Group III. Voorhees will wrestle at Cranford for the title.
North Hunterdon fell to Phillipsburg, 35-16, in North Jersey 2 Group IV action.
