FIRST Robotics Competition and Maker Fest to be held next month
Robotics teams Mercury of Hightstown, Mighty Monkey Wrenches of Trenton, and Hive Mind of Hamilton will be among 40 high school robotics teams in New Jersey and Pennsylvania that will battle in the Mid-Atlantic District FIRST Robotics Competition at Olive High School on March 9-11.
In conjunction with the competition, the school will host its first “Marauder Maker Fest,” featuring science and technology activities for all ages, on March 10. Both events are free and open to the public.
In the competition, student-built robots will compete for district rankings. Topranked robots after district competitions advance to regional and, potentially, world robotics events later this spring. Teams also compete for various awards.
The Mount Olive competition, which annually attracts more than 2,000 students, parents and community members, this year will include robots from Pennsylvania as well as teams from Morris, Sussex, Warren, Somerset, Bergen, Passaic, Hunterdon, Essex, Mercer, Union, Middlesex and Hudson counties.
All are welcome to attend the Power Up competition on March 9 from 4 to 10 p.m., and March 10 and 11 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m., as well as the Maker Fest on March 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
