Mary Grace Cooper Kalil, 66, of Stafford, VA, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, February 16, 2018.

Born in Trenton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Louis W. and Grace Halsey Cooper. A graduate of Notre Dame High School in Lawrence, NJ, Grace received a bachelor’s degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

Devoting much of her career to working with children, Grace’s first teaching assignment was at Sacred Heart School in the District of Columbia. While raising her children, she helped her husband establish and build his business. For many years, Grace worked in a number of Stafford County elementary schools and retired in 2006.

An active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Grace sang in the choir, participat­ed in the bell choir, helped with the food pantry, and was instrument­al in developing St. Peter’s Scholarshi­p Fund. She also volunteere­d with Stafford County Social Services.

Grace is survived by her husband, Thomas S. Kalil; son Daniel L. Kalil and his wife Colleen of Springfiel­d, VA; daughter Christine M. Kalil of Stafford, VA; beloved grandson, Chase L. Kalil; and sister Kathleen Kulesza of Langhorne, PA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Cooper. Grace also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and very dear friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 23 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford, VA.

A service will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 24.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Scholarshi­p Fund, 1201 Courthouse Rd., Stafford, VA 22554.
