Hopewell pulls another upset in CJ3 tourney

PEMBERTON » The 12thseeded Hopewell Valley High girls basketball team made the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III bracket an All-Colonial Valley Conference affair by defeating fourth-seeded Pemberton, 50-39, Wednesday.

The Bulldogs (14-13) will visit top-seeded Ewing (235) Friday in the sectional semifinal round. Steinert (21-6) will visit Allentown (23-3) in the other half of the CJ III bracket.

Meggy Wiley directed Hopewell’s attack with a game-high 23 points. Franki Gomez backed her with 11 points.

Shavonne Smith paced Pemberton with 20 points.

Deutch finished with a game-high 21 points, while Erika Porter had 16 points to lead ND.
